DAY 06 / Wie es funktioniert

Your app is a restaurant. Here's how it actually works.

Frontend, backend, API — you nod like you understand. By the end of this page, you actually will.

You nod like you understand. But you don't.

Yesterday: the database is the foundation. Today: how ALL the pieces fit together.

You hear developers talk about "frontend" and "backend" and "API." You nod like you understand. But you don't.

You're tired of feeling like an outsider in technical conversations. Let me explain it in a way that actually makes sense.

Your app is a restaurant.

The four parts of every app

Every app is made of the same four pieces. A restaurant has the exact same four. Once you see the mapping, you can't unsee it.

When a user clicks "Sign Up"

Watch all four parts work together in a single action. Here's exactly what happens when someone signs up for your app.

1
Dining Room
User fills form, clicks button.
2
Waiter
Takes the request to kitchen.
3
Kitchen
Checks if email exists, validates password.
4
Recipe Book
Stores new user in database.
5
Waiter
Brings confirmation back.
6
Dining Room
Shows "Account created!" message.

That's it. That's how your entire app works. Frontend → API → Backend → Database → Back to Frontend.

Why this matters

When AI builds code, it's building these 4 parts.

Understanding where each piece goes = you can catch when AI puts kitchen equipment in the dining room (it happens).

I'm sending you: "SaaS Architecture Mental Model For Non-Technical People" — the restaurant analogy explained completely. How the layers connect. What goes where.

Tomorrow: you've learned enough. Now let's make YOUR idea real.

You're not an outsider anymore

Six days. Six guides. You now understand more about building software than most people who call themselves "technical."

You're not an outsider anymore. You're a builder who knows what quality means. Tomorrow, we turn that knowledge into YOUR specific action plan.

If you picked A or B, that's not a lack of intelligence — it's a lack of a mental model. Nobody ever handed you the map. The restaurant analogy IS the map: dining room, kitchen, recipe book, waiters. Read it twice and the jargon stops being a wall.

If you picked C, D, or E, notice what just happened: you stopped being the outsider in the room. You don't need to know HOW to build the kitchen. You need to know where the kitchen is — so you can tell when AI puts it in the wrong place.

SELF-ASSESSMENT
01
Be honest — when a developer says "the API is calling the backend," what actually happens in your head right now?
  • A - Total blank. I nod and hope nobody asks me a follow-up question.
  • B - I know the words but couldn't tell you which piece does what.
  • C - I can picture the restaurant now: waiter carrying an order to the kitchen.
  • D - I already get it — I could trace a "Sign Up" click through all four parts.
  • E - I could spot AI putting kitchen equipment in the dining room.
